Audacity

This is the second of a series or articles featuring Free Open Source Software. This is business class software that is free. Grant High School gives copies of this software to all students when they enrol at the school so that students can continue with their learning at home without cost and without pirating.

Got an oral to do for one of your subjects? Need to create some special sound effects? Audacity is the tool to use.

Audacity is free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac, Windows and Linux. You can use Audacity to do things like:
  • Record live audio.
  • Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs.
  • Edit Ogg Vorbis, MP3, and WAV sound files.
  • Cut, copy, splice, and mix sounds together.
  • Change the speed or pitch of a recording.

There is good documentation and a strong online user community that can support you with using this software
